Freewilds Gazette - Issue Fifteen. Monday, August 15, 2022

Updated: Sep 12, 2022

Shouting Out

Readers and Friends,

Last issue of the Freewilds Gazette was pretty big, so I am going to keep this one short and simple (relatively). I need to begin by sending my congratulations to an author whose work I have been a fan of since I first started to pour my heart into writing a little over a year ago. H.C. Newell writes tremendous, engaging, heart-wrenching epic fantasy novels that I find, in equal parts. inspiring and intimidating. These are not the books of a newcomer to this art, my friends. The first book, Curse of the Fallen, was one of the best new books I have read in years, and its follow-up, The Forbidden Realms, has just been released!

I also want to recommend the artistic services of BihancGraphics. He is the talented digital artist that has been helping me to update my website and to further establish the visual language of the Saga.

Finally, just another reminder that Bastion - Saga of the Freewilds, Book Three is still on schedule for an official release on September 30th, 2022

Magic is against the law. Will Gwyn risk execution to save his brother?

The Crow King has outlawed magic. Despite the kingdom's edict, Gwyn plunges into the ancient and deadly True Wood to find a magical cure for his dying brother. Within the shadowed realm, he must fend off more than violent and fallen fae-like Ilidreth when he learns the king is out to stop him at whatever cost.

On his desperate quest, he is joined by a unicorn, a quirky girl, and the maddest of the fallen fae. Together they must outrun enchanted crows and enemy armies, and face the ghosts of a shattered age, all while racing to save Gwyn’s brother. Meanwhile, war brews between countries, and a secret order of mages hunts Gwyn down.

Yet none of this can prepare Gwyn for the harrowing truth behind the fall of the Ilidreth long, long ago, and what it means for his life and his homeland.

The cowards never tried and the weak died along the way.

-Elder Valdanes, the Kata Excerpts 14.3

Valdanes. The elite sword clan that serve as the fist of the Kingdom

From the age of four they are taught to be three things:

Servants, Soldiers, Vassals.

At the cadet rank of Iron, Tristan Valdanes is no different. His days are spent in the classroom and his nights on the training grounds, always looking to hone the special sword technique of the Valdanes Clan.

Everything he’s ever known will be put to the test when a portal to another world opens up on the Academy grounds, sealing them off from the rest of the world.

As duty is put to the test and loyalties are challenged, will they overcome or will they be corrupted?

Meg was raised to do her duty as the youngest daughter of the king.

But when he unexpectedly ties her to the northern nation and then dies, the kingdom assumes she will replace him as the Raven Crown.

With the entire world watching and waiting for something to happen, her eldest sister makes decisions as though she is queen. And as her cousins hope for a share of the power, Meg prays her faith is enough to maintain her sense of duty. As Meg’s hair remains resolutely white, the people wonder what her sisters will do to prove themselves more suitable, or remove the competition. An attack on one sister puts another in danger, and Meg doesn’t know who she can trust. Is her faith in the gods to choose wisely just a naïve girl’s dream? Or are the gods more involved than she imagined, and what could they want? Raven’s Dawn is an exciting start to the Raven Crown Series.

If you like magic, a temple full of gods and a dash of political intrigue, then you will love Georgina Makalani’s series.
