The Juggling Act

Readers and Friends,

This last Thursday, June 30th, saw the official release of the second installment of the Saga of the Freewilds, VAGABOND. Once again, I want to thank you all for the support, encouragement, and guidance I have received. I thought I would keep this week's issue of the Freewilds Gazette short and sweet, for several reasons.

Firstly, the clock is officially ticking for me to complete final edits on Book Three of the Saga, BASTION, in advance of its pending release this coming September. I have been knees-deep in that process for the past few weeks, in fact. I split the latest draft into separate Word documents, chapter by chapter, and have been dedicating a full week to each one, chipping away at the story, adding finer details and crafting a more complete, ideal product aligned as closely as possible to my initial vision, while incorporating all the things I have learned about myself and the writing craft along the way.

My process has changed a bit as a result of a need to set and prioritize goals, mostly to ensure that I don't neglect one aspect of being an independent novelist for the sake of another.

It is a bit cliché, I know... but becoming a published author has really been quite the juggle!

If I had pursued a more traditional publishing route, I might not have ever gotten this far. However, some elements of the process would have been delegated elsewhere, potentially granting me leave to focus more on the actual 'writing' part of being a writer. I'm not complaining, though!

Far from it.

This whole endeavor has granted me a renewed, invigorating sense of purpose. There is always something to be done, and finding ways to become more efficient and effective has become a very satisfying challenge.

As more and more projects are undertaken (and I have several afloat at varying stages, presently), I believe these initial experiences will merely serve to heighten the joy of writing, for me. I hope that you will stick it out with me and see how things unfold!

AJ Faris's "Savage Plan"

A day at the spa ends in death.

I’m the only one who knows the truth…

Charles Carver destroyed my life. He’s the savage drug lord whose experimental concoction killed my brother and colleague. I vow to hunt him down and expose him for the criminal he is. After the brutal massacre at Selas Harbor two years ago, his crime empire vanished. I’m determined to find him. As an investigative journalist, it’s my job to seek answers. As a sister, it’s my personal mission to seek justice. I’m called on assignment to a wellness spa where there has been a suspicious death. The toxicology report matches the signature compounds of Carver’s experimental drug. I’m getting closer to tracking him down. I can feel it in my bones. Nothing can stop me now from revealing the truth before it’s too late. Before there are more victims.

I’ll do anything to stop his evil masterminded plan - even if it means risking my own life.

Millar and his team are being led on a macabre treasure hunt around the city of Ottawa, and they're desperate to find a connection between the crimes before the killer strikes again. The murders bear a striking similarity to one another, which should make it easier for the renowned profiler, but the evidence seems to point in an impossible direction. With every secret that's revealed, Millar is a step closer to realizing that nothing will ever be the same again.
